Southern New Zealand is rich in professional photographers, all with their own individuality and approach to weddings.

Choose carefully. Visit their websites to check their styles, study friends' wedding albums and if attending a wedding, keep an eye on the way the photographer approaches his or her work.

It's also about the way a photographer relates to the couple. By meeting the photographer to discuss their vision for the photographs a couple can learn quickly about a particular photographer's personality.

Photographers today have more control of what they are producing than ever before. In order to stay at the top of their chosen careers they invest heavily in their equipment, including the cameras and the technology for post-production work. They are constantly polishing their skills.

Many are members of the Otago Southland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers.

Here Emily Adamson, co-chairwoman of the local branch lists some top reasons to hire a professional:

  • they can be trusted and relied on to get it right
  • they have experience with all aspects of weddings, ensuring nothing is missed
  • they are prepared in every way for capturing your wedding where non-professionals are not
  • they are members of a professional organisation with guaranteed standards and ethics

An NZIPP photographer ensures quality, professionalism, insurance, skills, service and also innovation.
