As the reception is likely to take up the largest chunk of your wedding budget, it is worth putting in the effort to find the perfect fit.
FIRST THINGS FIRST:
- Get a rough idea of how many guests will be attending — venue capacity may automatically cut some places from the list.
- Have an understanding of your budget — some venues are more exclusive than others so will cost more.
- Research venues — go online or talk to friends and other suppliers to get some ideas. Make contact with the venues to get an initial idea about costs and availability and make a time to visit.
- Does it suit your needs — check through your list in regard to cost, styling and location to ensure it meets your needs. Make sure you have had all your questions answered by the venue manager.

Consider having your wedding on a weekday you may be able to negotiate a cheaper hire rate.
Have your ceremony and reception in the same place to save on travel costs.
Can you supply your own alcohol?
See if finishing the reception an hour or so earlier will decrease the cost.
