Jenna, nee Homer (30) accountant and Aaron Thompson (28) builder - Dunedin

When and where did you meet?

Aaron and I met when I went to Clyde during the summer holidays in January 2010 to stay with a work colleague for a couple of nights. On the first night of my stay, a group of us went to the pub. Aaron arrived at the pub to catch up with his brother, who as it turned out, was friends with my colleague. Introductions were made, and that was it. Every weekend for just over a year we commuted, either to Clyde or Dunedin. Aaron then shifted to Dunedin and we moved in together.

The proposal

On the evening of the 5th of December 2013, while at home, Aaron said to me, "there's a present in the Christmas tree for you". While I was looking in the tree for my present, Aaron went and got the ring. I found the present in the tree which was in a box and opened it, to find a pair of earrings. Aaron dropped to one knee and popped the question, which caught me totally by surprise. I obviously said YES!

When and where was the wedding?

We got married on the 27th February 2016 at the stunning Grandview Gardens in Outram.

Why did you choose the venue?

We both saw ourselves spending our future in Dunedin so decided that this would be the place we would get married. We also knew that it would be convenient for most of our friends and family to attend the wedding in Dunedin. We went to have a look at Grandview Gardens we were absolutely blown away and knew on the spot that this is where we would celebrate this occasion.

The dresses and suits

I purchased my wedding dress from Wilkin's Bridal in Christchurch. It was a vintage-inspired Essence of Australia lace fit-and-flare gown. The girls wore fuchsia Sorella Vita chiffon full length dresses. The boys wore grey suits from Hallensteins with waistcoats and white shirts. The groomsmen wore fuchsia ties to match the bridesmaids and the groom wore an ivory tie.

The caterers

The caterers were Café Rue. They were great and the food was amazing. We had so many compliments from our guests.

Highlight of the day

Marrying my best friend and having all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us. We had such a magical day full of fun, love and laughter.

Our photographer

Craig and Sarah from O'Neill Photographics were our photographer and they were fantastic. They arrived when we were getting ready and didn't leave until after our first dance. Craig and Sarah made us feel so relaxed and comfortable during our wedding day and we had so much fun with plenty of laughs. We are so happy with all of our photos. It's hard to choose a favourite but the photo of us sitting on the bridge is definitely a stand out. We were also given sneak peak photos the day after the wedding and had the rest of our photos within four weeks. They were amazing and we would recommend them to everyone.
