Four jobs have been cut at Dunedin exporter Farra Engineering following the loss of a multimillion-dollar contract recently.

Chief executive John Whitaker confirmed, when contacted yesterday, two design staff and two from the shop floor had been made redundant, following cancellation of a $1.8 million Australian contract.

During the past 15 months, staffing at Farra had been cut by a total of 15 to fewer than 100, including the four this week.

Mr Whitaker said usually the loss of one large contract would not prompt any redundancies, but because of the recession there was no other work for staff to do.
