120 registrations for Python conference

About 120 registrations have been received for a conference in Dunedin next month dedicated to the Python programming language.

Kiwi PyCon, an annual event held throughout New Zealand, will be based at the University of Otago on September 1 and 2.

Keynote speakers are Mark Hammond, from Australia, who has produced many of the Windows extensions for Python, and Robert Collins, from Rangiora, who is the technical architect for the Core DevOps team at Canonical.

Both men had a wealth of knowledge to share, one of the organisers, Adam Randall, said.

More than 20 talks were planned, including one on programming in secondary schools which should be of interest to the education sector, Mr Randall said.

The Dunedin technology scene was taking off, with the likes of CodeCraft, the distiller, DunLUG, Audacious, and increasing numbers of technology companies deciding to base themselves in the city.

It was the first time in six years Dunedin had hosted an international conference at that level, he said.
