Glass recycling from the front gate will be an option for Amberley residents from July 7.
Glass bottles and jars will be picked up weekly as part of the Hurunui District Council’s kerbside collection service.
The rollout of the service has been funded by a grant received from the Ministry for the Environment.
A glass collection box will be supplied to each house within the township.
Box collection vouchers are being sent out this week to homeowners and the boxes can be picked up from the district council office or Hurunui Library on Carters Rd in Amberley.
Renters are encouraged to contact their landlord to get their voucher.
District council compliance and waste manager Andrew Brown said the service reflects the growth of the town.
He said the service will be a straightforward process, as long as the simple guidelines are followed.
The glass collection pick up will be on the same day and time as the district council's rubbish and recycling collection.
All of the collected glass will be put in empty trucks returning from Kate Valley landfill and taken to Christchurch.
It will then be recycled into new glass materials or used in roading throughout Canterbury.
Residents should only use the official glass recycling box, ensure they do not overfill it, and remember to remove the caps and lids from jars and bottles.
