Three teams from South Canterbury have walked away from the New Zealand Kyokushin Karate nationals with top honours.
In Wellington at the weekend members from the Timaru, Waimate and Fairlie dojos competed across multiple different disciplines like kata (forms) and kumite (fighting).


Representing Timaru were Miglia Schicker, and Eva, Maximilian, Soraya, Constantine and Caspian Hunt.
Schicker claimed the top prize in the junior black belt individual kata and then joined Maximilian, Soraya and Constantine to claim second place in the senior team kata.


Eva rounded off the medal haul with a second place finish in the novice woman's kumite.
Waimate was represented by the young duo of Eli and Flynn Waller and Fairlie by the young trio of Ryan Wilkes, and Oscar and Ollie Murphy.


The two dojos shone in the junior boys kumite, Flynn taking the gold medal and Ollie the silver.
Timaru Kyokushin senpai Bob Drummond said it was successful tournament overall and he was proud of the results achieved by the three South Canterbury dojos. — Allied Media
