Amy Schumer has cancelled her upcoming Auckland show over an unspecified illness.

The comedian was set to perform in New Zealand for the first time at Auckland's Vector Arena on December 17.

But a press release issued today said her Australia and New Zealand December tour "will not go ahead due to illness". It did not elaborate on what the illness was.

Schumer was hospitalised in Paris while holidaying with her boyfriend Ben Hanisch in September over food poisoning.

Promoters said they were working on a replacement tour.

"Unfortunately, due to Amy Schumer's tight schedule it is not possible to schedule replacement dates. However, we will be working to confirm a return to New Zealand as soon as is practical."

The press release continued: "Amy Schumer and Live Nation apologise for any disappointment."

Refunds are available through point of purchase.
