Blogger sentenced for leaking Guns N' Roses album

A US federal judge has sentenced a man who pleaded guilty to leaking part of the Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy to a year's probation.

Blogger Kevin Cogill will also serve two months of home confinement, subject his computers to government scrutiny, and record a public service announcement for the Industry Association of America.

Cogill pleaded guilty earlier this year to one misdemeanor count of copyright infringement for posting nine tracks from the long-awaited Guns 'N Roses album last year.

He said in court Tuesday that he posted the tracks to promote the band, not hurt it.

A federal prosecutor had asked a judge to sentence Cogill to some prison time, but US Magistrate Judge Paul Abrams said he felt Cogill had learned his lesson.
