CD Reviews: Sounds of the 80s

This BBC Radio 2 initiative draws in a host of pop artists, predominantly from the UK, to give a contemporary spin to 37 hits from the decade subtlety forgot.

Strange then to find so many earnest acoustic versions, but we'll put that down to playing to type from the likes of Ed Sheeran (Atlantic City), Birdy (Lucky Star), Katie Melua (Wonderful Life), Dido (Smalltown Boy) and Amy MacDonald (Waiting For A Star To Fall).

Highlights include dance-floor epics from Kylie Minogue (Bette Davis Eyes) and Sophie Ellis-Bextor (True Faith), and a subtle electro-pop gem from London Grammar (Wicked Game).
