CD reviews:Troy Kingi & The Electric Haka Boogie

A double concept album is pretty bold for an established artist, but for a relative newcomer it demonstrates amazing confidence. Though to be fair, Troy Kingi isn’t a fly-by-nighter and has quite a resume of successful bands and acting roles.

Recorded in seven days, Guitar Party at Uncle’s Bach is an outstanding achievement. Sequencing random audio grabs from a New Year’s party, Kingi rifles through a selection of tracks that cover ’70s soul, fuzzed-out stoner rock and blistering reggae-infused jams. With an infectious laidback party vibe, this is one sing-a-long that hits overdrive.
