Justin Bieber fans were reduced to tears late last night as the tween pop sensation was whisked away moments after exiting the terminal at Auckland International Airport.

Fresh from the hysteria which caused his only public performance in Australia to be cancelled, Bieber was greeted shortly before midnight by more then 500 noisy young fans.

Bieber, whose songs Eenie Meenie and Baby are in the New Zealand top 20, was surrounded by private security and did not stop to sign autographs.

He exited the terminal via a side door rather than the main terminal exit and was quickly bundled into a waiting car.

Many fans were left disappointed and some were reduced to tears.

Police and airport security were also on hand in light of the cancellation of the Sydney event.

The show was cancelled after rumours Bieber had arrived early caused a surge of his fans -- mostly children -- which resulted in up to 10 girls requiring medical treatment.

Bieber will today perform at Strathallan School in Papakura, south Auckland, after it won a concert through a radio station promotion.

Extra security is reportedly being planned for the school as well.
