The meals on wheels service at the Home of St Barnabas first began in May 1999, when members of the local parish were sick and needed a hot meal. Staff would deliver these in their lunch times.

Today we are delivering upwards of 190 meals each day, Monday to Saturday. We have had the philosophy right from the beginning that we will deliver an attractive, nutritious meal, a hot meal on a hot plate ready to eat. We try to make sure the runs are set so it is the same person delivering the meals to the same clients, so they get to know each other. It means that the drivers can pick up on when things are wrong, and they can let us know.

It is a personalised service. To continue making this happen we need the support of the community, volunteers who can give up an hour of their time. Either once a week or once a fortnight is best. You could also be a causal driver on call.

Meals runs are organised into eight or 10 deliveries. Pickup time from us here at 12 Ings Ave is 11.45am and meal runs will take no longer that an hour.

If you think you can help, please email us at meals@stbarnabasdun.org.nz or phone (03) 455-8298, ext.1
