See behind the scenes of Stadium’s turf renovation

2019 has been another busy year at Forsyth Barr Stadium - there have been big concerts; Eagles, Six60 and Fleetwood Mac, intense Highlanders and Otago rugby matches and a whole range of community events.

Over 200,000 sets of feet visiting the Stadium take their toll on the grass, so the team at Forsyth Barr Stadium areundertaking a major pitch renovation to spruce up the grass in time for the start of another busy year under the roof.

A major pitch renovation is done every two to three years. Over time, sand and seeds cover the fibres which need to be revealed during the renovation to add grip to the ground again.

The existing natural turf will be removed by a machine and only the synthetic grass left. Once the turf has been removed, new turf will be sown.

The public are invited to see behind the scenes of the Stadium’s major turf renovation and watch the top layer of the turf being stripped off. Turf Manager, Michael Watson, will be on hand to explain what's happening and you could win the Stadium’s special blend grass seed for your lawn at home!

Free entry to the public through Gate F between 8.30am and 10.30am on Monday 2 December.

Limited parking behind East End Stand.
