Media personality Kanoa Lloyd, who attended high school in Dunedin, is an ambassador for Women's Refuge, which is running its nationwide annual appeal this week.

What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?

This might sound terrible, but I don't really remember birthday presents. I mainly just remember who I'm with and what we're doing. Last year, my husband threw me a surprise party in my sister's garden, which was so lovely.

The year before that we were camping at the beach and we had ice cream sandwiches (my favourite) and a night-time paddle on the shore that was glowing with phosphorescence.

What smell do you find irresistible?

My favourite smell is that of goats. My grandparents farmed angora goats in Bannockburn. I remember it all being very sunny and grassy, with this tangy extra something from the animals. When I eat goat cheese now, it takes me back.

What is your message

Please pick up milk on the way home. Love you xx.

If you were going to an island and could take only three things, what would they be and why?

My husband, my dog and my cat. I'm not sure how useful my cat would be for island life but it would be sad if I left him at home while the rest of us were away.

My dog, Brown, would thrive on an island; he loves swimming and climbing. And Mikee can always build amazing fires.

What's something only your family knows about you?

That I'm a very grumpy morning person.
