A man is in custody after an elderly couple were killed in an apparently violent attack at their home in Darwin.
The 40-year-old is being held by police after the bodies of an elderly man and his wife were discovered by police at about 8pm (CST) on Wednesday night.
Police say the couple were found in the lounge room of their unit in the Darwin suburb of Coconut Grove.
"Police can confirm there were signs of violence and a struggle prior to the couple's death," Detective Acting Superintendent Scott Pollock said on Thursday.
"A post-mortem will be held today to establish the cause of death."
It is understood police were called to the unit after a relative found the couple.
The suspect, who was arrested late Wednesday night, has had his vehicle seized but no charges have yet been laid.
Police say the investigation is being treated as a homicide.
Further details of the couple have been withheld by police until next of kin have been notified.
