A man was injured yesterday after a driver he was directing reversed into him before speeding out of the Mitre 10 car park and colliding with two vehicles.

A witness said the elderly woman driver reversed over her assistant then changed gear and sped through some shrubs, crashing into a vehicle parked in Andersons Bay Rd before colliding with another car towing a trailer heading south, eventually ending up on the grassy division between the lanes.

"She panicked, floored it and took out two vehicles," the witness said.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to the crash at 3.05pm.

The man hit by the car received a minor leg injury and another person was in shock.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said an ambulance left the scene about 4pm carrying one patient, bound for Dunedin Hospital’s emergency department.

Ambulance staff remained on scene assessing another patient,  he said.
