Bindi Leech said she had lived at the same Kaikorai Valley Rd address for nearly two years and had noticed recently fewer letters delivered to her mailbox each day.
Some of the mail she received had been addressed to a property five doors down and to a house with the same street number in Kenmure Rd.
About two months ago, a young girl knocked on her door and handed over Miss Leech's mail which had been incorrectly delivered to the girl's house.
The extent of the problem was revealed when Miss Leech visited Mornington Health Centre and the administration staff told her she had to pay in full because past bills the centre had posted to her had been returned with ''not at this address'' written on the envelopes.
The health centre had forwarded her account to debt collection agency Baycorp, she said.
Miss Leech said she contacted NZ Post on October 6 about the missing mail and was told a new postie had been appointed in the suburb.
The NZ Post staff member suggested she place a hold on her mail and she went to collect the held mail last Thursday from the NZ Post Dunedin delivery branch in Portsmouth Dr.
In the pile were six letters to her and two letters for someone else at another Kaikorai Valley Rd address, including their power bill.
She was ''very angry'' the NZ Post staff member had not checked the letters before giving them to her.
The letters addressed to her included a police reminder to pay a speed camera fine, she said.
''I didn't even get the first letter.''
Debt collectors and police could have been chasing outstanding bills she was unaware of, she said.
''I'm really, really angry.''
Her sister in Christchurch had posted a birthday present for her 12-year-old daughter and it had never arrived.
Miss Leech said the present had a return address, and she suspected it was missing with other mail she would never see.
''My daughter is so upset she did not receive her birthday present.
''When is this going to end? How bad is it going to get before it gets any better?''
A New Zealand Post spokeswoman denied some mail had not been delivered to Miss Leech for the past five months, and said the problem had been occurring for only the past month.
Staff had caused the error by incorrectly sorting mail, she said.
''While we endeavour to process all mail correctly, due to the complex nature of the sorting and delivery process, errors like this can occasionally occur.
''We apologise to Bindi Leech and can assure her that her mail is being carefully monitored.''
