AOS taser man after standoff

A man armed with a knife was tasered and taken into custody after a standoff with police in Andersons Bay, Dunedin.

Police were called to Puketai St, Andersons Bay, just after midnight yesterday after reports of a domestic-related incident, Sergeant Dave Scott said.

''Police were confronted by a male armed with a knife, making threats toward police and himself,'' Sgt Scott said.

Officers ''tactically withdrew'' from the property and cordoned off the street.

The armed offenders squad was deployed to the address, and the man was tasered and taken into custody about 4am.

No-one was injured in the incident.

A 30-year-old Greymouth man was charged with criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon, and is expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court later this month.
