Dust off your lederhosen and clear your vocal cords - a little bit of Bavaria is about to hit Outram this weekend.

The Outram Charitable Trust is holding an Oktoberfest, complete with oompah band (the Kaikorai Metropolitan Brass Band), steinkrugs and, of course, beer.

Trust secretary Andy Grace said it was the trust's first fundraising event since it was established four months ago and it was aimed at raising funds to promote and develop the Outram community.

Plans already on its list of development projects included the creation of a new playground area for 10- to 14-year-olds, a series of cycleways in the Outram area as part of the national cycleway, and paving footpaths in the rural town, he said.

Mr Grace had no idea how much money would be raised because he had no idea how popular the event would be.

One thing he was certain about was the trust's responsibilities as host.

Because the event had been heavily supported by local businesses, food would be provided and a courtesy coach would take guests home.

"It would be great if people could enter into the spirit of the event and dress up to enjoy the Bavarian atmosphere."

The Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday at the West Taieri Rugby Club in Outram at 7.30pm.
