Blind woman hit by bus in Maori Hill

A blind Dunedin woman was "feeling like she had been hit by a bus'' yesterday because she had been the day before.

Motivational speaker Julie Woods, aka That Blind Woman, was recovering in her central Dunedin home yesterday after being hit by a bus in Maori Hill on Tuesday.

"I've got nine stitches in the back of my head and a bump on my thigh. Apart from that, I'm very lucky.''

Ms Woods (50) was taken to Dunedin Hospital after being hit by a Go Bus on the corner of Grater St and Balmacewen Rd.

She lost a lot of blood, had a CT scan and was discharged from Dunedin Hospital at 5.30pm the same day.

She expected to make a full recovery, she said.

She had no memory of the accident but never heard the bus coming.

She was on a morning walk with her guide Jo Stoddart and husband Ron Esplin.

Mr Esplin was walking in front of her and Mrs Stoddart was walking beside her, both women holding on to a 15cm-long rope.

Mrs Stoddart was also hit by the bus but was not injured, Ms Woods said.
