Braving the shave

Holding up her hair moments before losing it for Shave For a Cure yesterday is Otago Girls’ High School pupil Well Chomchoei (17).

Well said she was inspired by the pupils she saw three years ago who shaved their head for charity.

"The girls looked so brave.’’

Although she did not feel brave going in, she knew she would not regret it. "People with cancer don’t get to choose.’’

Three pupils and one teacher had their heads shaved.

Pupils were able to donate for the chance to cut a portion of hair from one of the volunteers. More than $7000 had been raised.

Well is an international pupil from Thailand and was unable to go home due to Covid-19. She found it difficult, but had embraced her life here and wanted to try new things such as this, she said.
