Police have called off a search for a person believed missing at Dunedin's Brighton Beach since Friday.

The search began after a person wearing dark-coloured clothing was seen walking in to the water on Friday morning.

Teams comprising police, LandSAR staff and volunteers resumed the search yesterday, focusing on an area taking in Brighton Beach and Blackhead.

No trace of the person was found.

Police said in a statement last night they had received no reports of a missing person relating to the event.

Specialists would assess any new information and remained prepared to revisit the area, but until such information came to light there were no plans to continue the search.

Anyone with information can call the Dunedin Police Station on 03 471 4800.
