Cystic Fibrosis Otago organisers aimed to create giant bubbles at the Dunedin Railway Station, in the Octagon and at the Otago Museum Reserve on Saturday, the latter event running from 10am to 2pm.
The Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand has adopted bubbles as its main symbol.
Cystic Fibrosis Otago chairman Julian Cox said this was the third and largest-scale ''giant bubbles day'' run by the Otago group and an estimated 500 people watched or made bubbles.
The biggest bubble created on Saturday was more than 9m long and this year two extra venues were added to the railway station, which had been used in the previous two years.
The bubbles were fun in themselves but also helped draw attention to the main annual cystic fibrosis fundraising days, this Friday, when there was a street appeal, and Saturday.
Mr Cox was thrilled with the ''many smiles on people's faces'' and the amount of talk in the community, both about the bubbles and cystic fibrosis.
