Burglaries in Fairfield

Police are warning Fairfield residents that burglars have been targeting the Dunedin suburb over the past week.

Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said three properties were targeted, two in Fairfield and another in nearby Sunninghurst.

The Sunninghurst burglary occurred on Tuesday afternoon. A bedroom window was forced open and ''everything searched and rummaged through''.

A 22-inch flat-screen television, two sleeping bags, bedding, pots, an electric frypan, a microwave and a picnic hamper were taken, he said.

The same afternoon, burglars tried unsuccessfully to enter a property in Main Rd.

Another unsuccessful attempt was made to enter a garage in Main Rd last week, prompting police to warn residents to secure their properties and to report any suspicious activity.

In Northeast Valley, a television and electrical cable and cords were taken from a Chambers St property this week.

Police were following a line of inquiry, Sgt Aitken said.

A 1996 Nissan Sunny taken from Prendergast St, South Dunedin, on Tuesday was later found in Bellona St, St Kilda.

Two truck batteries were also reported stolen from a Musselburgh Rise property, and coins were removed from a vehicle in Dick St, South Dunedin.
