Taieri Plain landowners and residents can discuss a report about flood protection with Otago Regional Council staff and councillors next month.

Community drop-in sessions are being held on March 5 at the West Taieri Rugby Club in Outram at 11.30am and Mosgiel’s Coronation Hall at 5.30pm.

A report by Tonkin + Taylor found an extreme deluge was highly likely to cause widespread failure of the floodbanks network and two sections would be at "extreme risk".

The council described the risk assessment work as routine and said its findings would "assist with the next stages of work, such as prioritising potential floodbank improvements, guiding further assessments, understanding the tolerable risk and considering future adaptation plans".

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board has also signalled it intends to host a public meeting next month.
