Colder weather with some snow will be felt across the South Island towards the end of the week, MetService says.
Meteorologist John Law said overnight temperatures would drop to 5degC or 6degC in Dunedin city, and 3degC or 4degC in Mosgiel.
''On Thursday and Friday, it might be dropping down to 0degC towards Queenstown and Balclutha,'' he said.
''Once you get away from the sea, you find really cold nights.''
Daytime temperatures in Dunedin would hover around 11degC on Friday, Mr Law said.
Snow would likely fall above 400m-500m later in the week, hitting ''in towards the tops of the Remarkables''.
Clutha was also likely to see some snowfall at higher altitudes later this week, Mr Law said.
It was unlikely snow would fall in Dunedin, but ''it's one of those ones to keep an eye on towards the end of the week''.
''There's uncertainty about how much we're going to get,'' he said.
