Come see what’s on the menu at the stadium

Celebrity chef Pete Evans will be cooking up a storm inspired by local cuisine at  the  Great Kiwi Home and Living Show this weekend.

Mr Evans said it was fantastic to be in New Zealand and was enjoying the good weather.

The Australian chef,  who is a judge on cooking show My Kitchen Rules, will be giving live cooking demonstrations at 11am and 2pm today as part of the second Great Kiwi Home and Living Show at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Mr Evans would prepare several dishes,  including one with raw salmon and another with chicken-bone broth.

"[I will be] teaching how simple it is to make it, how cheap it is to make it and why we should be including it into our diet, because of all the healing benefits in our guts. And it’s delicious too."

He would also discuss how to get "delicious fat" into our bodies.

"We need to understand what kinds of fats are good for us."

Mr Evans said although some of the dishes he  would prepare might appear exotic, they  would take inspiration from local cuisine.

"I couldn’t come to New Zealand and not cook some lamb,  so we’re doing Indian spiced lamb chops."

They would be served with coconut yoghurt, which was "a little bit of fun".

Location played a big factor in the dishes he prepared for shows.

"We always think about the location. Always think about the season and what we can access."

Without giving too much away  before today’s show, Mr Evans said there  would be recipes that  were cheap and simple to prepare.

It is his first time in this area of New Zealand but his visit will be short-lived, as he leaves tonight.

Other highlights at the home show today and tomorrow include a variety of cars on display from eight franchise dealers.

There is also a raffle to win one of two sleepouts kitted out by The Hits radio hosts Callum Procter and Patrina "P" Roche.

Ms Roche loves interior designing.

"If I lived on my own without any children, then that’s what my house would look like," she said of her design.

She attended the first Kiwi Home and Living Show and said it was great.

"I think the stadium offers something no other can."

Other exhibitions at the show will feature  biking, boating, food and wine, gardening, outdoors, health, houses, motoring  and travel and recreation.

There are more than 100 exhibitors and organisers hope to attract between 8000 and 10,000 visitors.

The show is a partnership between Dunedin Venues and the Otago Daily Times.
