Richard Joseph was presented the citation yesterday.
The Dunedin City Council said he had been involved in a range of initiatives, including helping to bring in funding and sharing leadership skills.
The citation is awarded annually to a resident who has made an outstanding contribution to the libraries’ collections, services or programmes.
Mr Joseph is the Cedars of Lebanon Club president and this connection helped secure funding to establish Scattered Seeds — He Purapura Marara, the libraries’ Recollect website.
This platform was created to give the city a place to store the memories, mementos and stories of the people who landed in Dunedin and called it home.
He was also a trustee of the newly formed Dunedin Public Libraries Heritage Foundation and had secured funding for digitisation of the Downie Stewart Archive, the council said. — Allied Media
