A man was arrested last night after an alleged attempted drive-by shooting of a St Kilda cat.
Police converged on the Dunedin suburb about 9pm following reports of gunfire near the Dunedin Ice Stadium in Victoria Rd.
A police spokeswoman said officers learned a person had allegedly taken aim from the window of their car at a passing cat, before opening fire.
"They did not hit the cat, and the cat ran away."
After a brief search of the area, police found and arrested the suspected shooter, the spokeswoman said.
They also seized a weapon, believed to be an air rifle or BB gun.
There was a heavy police presence in nearby Magdala St in Tainui following the arrest as officers made inquiries.
Police dog teams were on scene but were not deployed.
