Dave Cull says he has no agenda to push through after winning his third term as Dunedin Mayor.

Mr Cull is set to lead the city again in a term that should extend his tenure in local government to 12 years by next election.

He said he felt `"very grateful'' to the Dunedin community for supporting him.

"I'm very pleased.''

Asked if he had been wounded during his last term by South Dunedin flooding and cycleway problems, Mr Cull said there was an element in the community that would blame governance for those issues, no matter who was responsible.

He said no big issues stood out during the campaign.

Mr Cull was criticised during the election for running a "bloc'' of councillors that voted together, though that was denied by those councillors.

Asked if he had a majority of eight councillors he thought he could pull together to get things done, Mr Cull said he did not see things that way.

He did not have an agenda to push through, instead it was up to the council to decide how to implemented the strategies that were already in place.

"I'm really looking forward to this council, I think it has the makings of a very good council.

He said there was plenty of diversity on the last council, and perhaps more on the new one, which would have more women.

He did have thoughts on the new councillors "but I'm probably not going to share them publicly''.

On his own re-election, he said he had led councils that had "achieved a considerable amount, in areas from arts and culture to reducing debt.

"We've kept our promises.''

Mr Cull said he would ring the new councillors over the weekend to introduce himself and explain ``where we go from here''.

He also planned to talk to each of them during the week.

After that there would be `"an in-depth, comprehensive induction''.

That would mean once pre-draft annual plan hearings began in January, all would be up to
speed.
