DCC boss gets small hike

Dunedin City Council chief executive Sue Bidrose has linked her pay to that of her staff.

Dr Bidrose said yesterday she was now receiving the same pay rise awarded to the council's hundreds of staff.

The initiative was signed off in late 2016, but took effect when staff received 1% pay increases in July 1 last year and January 1 this year, she said.

Dr Bidrose received a 6% pay rise in October 2016, lifting her to $371,880. Now, after two further 1% increases, her pay stands at $379,355.

There had been discussions about larger pay rises for Dr Bidrose, whose pay remained below those of comparable chief executive roles, but that made her ``quite uncomfortable''.

``Frankly, any work that gets done here gets done by staff right across the organisation. I'm more than happy to receive the same pay rises as staff.''

Serious question is the Mayor and Councillors positions considered full time employment or just part time? Reason for the question if a councillor is getting $55000 NZD and most likely other benefits, Are they entitled to other employment? and for those who appear to own businesses and have other employment are they giving Dunedin Rate payers their full attention and value for money. or is it just a token tick and flick process?
