Dogs attack officers during arrest

Two Dunedin police officers used pepper spray to subdue dogs that attacked them while they were arresting the owner this morning.

The incident occurred about 10am after police were called to a South Dunedin address in relation to a domestic incident.

While arresting a man at the address, two officers were attacked by the man's three pit-bull cross dogs. The pair sustained bites to their arms, legs and hands.

The officers used pepper spray on the dogs to break the grip they had on their  arms.

Both officers were taken to hospital where they were treated for multiple puncture wounds before being discharged. They will return to work next week.

The dogs were seized from the address by Dunedin City Council Animal Control.

A 19-year-old unemployed male will appear in the Dunedin District Court on charges relating to this incident.
