Emergency services attend a crash near Westwood in Dunedin yesterday.

Senior Constable Darryn Buist, of Mosgiel, said an ''elderly lady'' was driving south in a 2004 Toyota Rav 4 between Westwood and Brighton when she failed to negotiate a ''slight right-hand corner'' on Brighton Rd about 2.20pm.

The SUV hit a scrub area on the roadside, rolled and came to rest on its roof.

The woman sustained minor injuries, he said.

''She's got a couple of scratches, some minor bumps and bruises. She's OK - she is more upset her car is damaged.''

The woman had owned the SUV for six months, he said.

The SUV resting upside down on dry vegetation was a potential fire risk, so firefighters called a tow truck to remove it, Snr Const Buist said.

A St John spokesman said an ambulance attended but was not needed.
