Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall's visit to Mosgiel next month has ''excited'' the community.

The couple will land at Dunedin Airport on Thursday, November 5, and take a trip from Mosgiel Railway Station aboard a Dunedin Railways train for the 25-minute journey to the Dunedin Railway Station.

Dunedin Railways chief executive Murray Bond said he expected hundreds of people to greet the Royals at the Mosgiel station and to line the tracks between Mosgiel and Wingatui and around Abbotsford and Green Island.

The Royals would be joined on the trip by Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull and past and present Dunedin Railways staff.

Prince Charles had never been on a Dunedin Railways train, Mr Bond said.

''We are delighted.''

Mosgiel Taieri Community Board member Sarah Nitis said it was ''fabulous'' the Royal couple had chosen Mosgiel to start their Dunedin tour.

She would ''absolutely'' go and greet them at Mosgiel Railway Station and expected many Taieri residents to join her.

East Taieri School principal Jennifer Horgan said the pupils and staff would be at the station to meet Charles and Camilla.

Abbotsford School principal Stephanie Madden said the railway track was near the school and they would look for places from where the children could safely wave at the Royal couple.
