This year's theme was Hollywood Glamour. A stunning array of creative designs delighted the audience of 350 people at the Dunedin Town Hall.
Jenny Thomas used tin can tabs and rubbish bags to decorate a dress inspired by the elegance of screen legend Elizabeth Taylor.
Her daughter, Georgie Thomas-Milne (22), modelled the dress.
This is the fourth time they have entered, having won twice before, but they say it is not about the winning.
For them it was something special to do together.
''It's lovely to do it with my daughter,'' Ms Thomas said.
Lochiel Kay created a yellow 1920s flapper dress for her daughter Ramona Mahutte (11).
She loved spending time with her daughter for the contest.
It played to their strengths, Mrs Kay said.
''Ramona enjoys being on stage. She doesn't get nervous,'' she said.
''And I like to create the dress, so it works for both of us.''
Kathleen Ring made the event a whole family affair.
She designed dresses for her three daughters - Caitlyn (8), Laura (11) and Annabelle (13).
Mrs Ring was pleased that this year she was able to choose the foils, and designed three very different dresses - a Carole Lombard theme for Caitlyn, a modern red carpet feel for Laura and an ornate Cleopatra theme for eldest daughter Annabelle.
It was an opportunity for her to spend time with her daughters doing something they all loved, she said.
The show raised more than $10,000 for Youthline Otago.
