Initially cancelled due to Covid restrictions, rail fans young and old took the opportunity to see some tiny trains at the rescheduled show.
Show co-ordinator Trevor Buchanan said there were more than 1500 rail enthusiasts through the doors over the weekend, with Mother’s Day proving particularly popular.
"We get a lot of mothers ... grandparents with grandkids maybe giving their daughter or daughter-in-law a break.
"Sometimes you just get granddads through, so that means maybe grandmother is getting a break."
Second place was taken by a more traditional layout called Kaikoura Coast.
The show had been cancelled at one point when Covid restrictions were threatening to limit crowds to 100 people.
When this limit was expanded to 200, the show was back on, and organisers were rewarded with the complete removal of all crowd limits by the time the show rolled around.
Mr Buchanan said he had already booked the venue for Mother’s Day weekend next year, with many of the model rail enthusiasts already pledging to bring a layout to next year’s show.
