Fencing to protect remnants of native bush on part of the Dunedin City Council's Harbour Cone block in the Peggy's Hill area started this week.

The work is being carried out through the Otago Peninsula Trust, which was awarded $47,850 over two years for fencing, native planting and weed poisoning.

Project co-ordinator Rhys Millar said some bush, plus a patch of ground where revegetation is planned, would be fenced off.

Planting of that area would be carried out by volun- teers over about six weeks, beginning within the next month.

That area would then connect to another significant remnant patch in the area of Stewart's Creek.
