Showing their vocal skills at the long-standing — but recently rebranded — musical competition SongFest’24 in Dunedin yesterday are (top from left) Lachie Hall, Grace Hill, Deacon Kynan-Wilde, (bottom from left) Allan McDonald, Kahurangi Makiha and Emerson Walker.

The event took place between Friday and yesterday at the Otago Boys’ High School auditorium, and more than 60 singers aged under 21 took part.

Organising committee member Jill Rutherford said that was double the previous turnout.

"It has been hands down a very, very successful festival and we’re just going to grow and grow", she said.

Participants came from Dunedin, as well as further afield.

The event used to be called the Green Island Junior Vocal Competition, and had been running for about 75 years. However, this year the event was rebranded in a bid to boost the falling numbers of recent years.
