Fire at fertiliser plant

One person was admitted to hospital after a fire at a Dunedin fertiliser plant this morning.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze, in the manufacturing area of Ravensdown's plant in Ravensbourne, about 8.30am.

The fire has been extinguished.

One person was admitted to hospital and two others were examined as a precautionary measure.

Acting chief executive Bryan Inch said the manufacturing area was cordoned off but the rest of the plant remained operational.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
