Floating tourists rescued

Two Swedish tourists were rescued by surf life-savers south of Brighton on Saturday after the inflatable mattress they were floating on started drifting out to sea.

Brighton lifeguard Scott Weatherall said he and a fellow lifeguard were alerted to the couple, who were floating about 450m from the shore, 5km south of Brighton, about 2pm on Saturday.

A member of the public had noted the pair, both aged 24, looked to be in trouble and called the emergency services.

Lifeguards drove to the beach to effect the rescue.
