Jessica Withnall, the daughter of Queens Counsel Colin Withnall, was one of seven people admitted to the Bar in a ceremony at the High Court at Dunedin.
Mr Withnall said it was a "very proud moment" for him to see his youngest child enter the legal profession.
His eldest son, Paul, is a barrister in Wellington.
Miss Withnall said having her father and brother both there as moving counsel for her admission was "very special".
With law having been such a big part of her life, it was almost a natural progression to move into the profession, she said.
Having such an "amazing" and successful lawyer for a father meant there were sometimes high expectations of her, but she was looking forward to making her own way in her career, she said.
The 24-year-old University of Otago graduate said she was happy to be starting work with Dunedin family law firm Jenny Beck in October.
The other six lawyers admitted to the bar at yesterday's ceremony were: Olinda Auty, Joanne Lee, Kate McLay, Robyn Matthews, Jared St Clair-Newman and Emily Shelton-Agar.
