One person has died following a water-related incident in the Waimakariri River in Canterbury today.
The incident was reported to emergency services at about 4.30pm, Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said in a statement this evening.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the person died at the scene.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
