The former Taieri College pupil will travel to Australia for the first two rounds of the Trials World Championship in April.
Fox will compete in the 125cc class, but it would be his last season in that class, he said. He broke three metatarsals at the end of last season, which caused him to miss trials in Australia and New Zealand, but he was now ''back training, running, riding, everything''.
''I started training about Christmas time and it's really good,'' Fox said of his foot.
''I lost a lot of muscle in my calf as well and that's pretty much back to what it was.''
Fox was aiming for top-10 finishes in the events he competed in this season.
''I think I'm riding better now and I should have a very competitive bike this year as well,'' he said of his chances.
He finished in the top 15 of some events last season, but believed the modifications he had made to his bike stood him in good stead to push for higher honours.
''My bike was slightly underpowered last season, not much, but every little bit counts,'' Fox said.
This season, which would take him to Corsica, Italy, Belgium, France and Britain, presented his best opportunity to attract the attention of factory teams and sponsors, he said.
He hoped to compete in the 18- 23-year-olds' open class from next year, but as the season took him overseas for up to five months he needed the help which factory teams provided.
''The goal is to be picked up by a factory team and ride for them.''
