With many families coming under increasing financial stress, Presbyterian Support Otago's Family Works Service has published a new booklet which contains activities families can do together at little or no cost.

The free booklet, Just 4 Fun, was launched at the Waikouaiti Library yesterday as part of the annual United Nations Families Day.

Presbyterian Support Otago chief executive Gillian Bremner said many families in the region were under financial stress and the cost of providing entertainment often pushed their budgets "over the edge".

"So now is the perfect time to remind them of the many, often traditional, things they can do together at home."

About 100 pre-school children, their parents, caregivers and teachers attended the booklet launch and were entertained with stories, poems, and puppetry by entertainer Kat Anna Fiddle.
