The Otago Polytechnic's second International Food Design Conference ended on a high note with a gala dinner at the polytechnic campus last night.

Conference convener Prof Richard Mitchell said yesterday the three-day event had been "an outrageous success''.

The conference celebrated "The Human Touch'', recognising the stories and influence of people who grew, manufactured and prepared our food.

Attendees included chefs, food producers, growers, food technologists, food media, bloggers and "highly engaged foodies''.

The polytechnic's second international food design conference adopted the successful blend of keynote addresses and hands-on workshops used in the first such event, held in 2014, he said.

The latest conference also had a strong focus on sustainability, and the event was growing, with about 150 participants, up from about 100 in 2014.

The conference and dinner were also part of the celebrations to mark the Otago Polytechnic's 50th anniversary.
