The Fire Service is at the scene of a gas leak in Melrose St in central Dunedin.
A Fire Service spokesman said firefighters were called to the scene about 10.30am.
It is understood a gas line is leaking gas. Firefighters at the scene are using a hose to suppress the leak.
The Fire Service spokesman said they were waiting for the gas company to arrive to shut off the leak.
A police spokeswoman said police were aware of the leak, but no evacuations were being made at present.
