The Valley Cycle Workshop, an offshoot of The Valley Project, gave away bicycles to whoever wanted one on Saturday.
Workshop head co-ordinator Mike Gilmore said it was something the project was doing to help the community.
"This is something I want to give back to the community and try and get people out of cars and on to bikes," he said.
The workshop fixed old push-bikes given to it and gave them to community members for a small donation.
On Saturday, the workshop was doing that for free.
It started the giveaway at 9.30am and by 10am had already given away more than 20 bikes.
Mr Gilmore said he had taken over the workshop after volunteering at it under its founder, Peter McDonald, about four years ago.
He enjoyed the work and with a team of volunteers it was easy, Mr Gilmore said.
The workshop will be open until December 20 for anyone who needs their bike fixed.
