Green-leaning pupils sought

Two Otago youths with a keen interest in their environment are being sought to take part in a national forum.

Nominations have opened for the 2010 Sir Peter Blake Trust Youth Environment Forum in Wellington and the Otago Regional Council is seeking Otago candidates.

About 45 pupils aged 16-18 will take part in the forum in Wellington from April 11-15.

Regional council associate director education and communication Peter Taylor said the youth forum was a great opportunity for participants to learn about the environment and how it was managed in New Zealand while making new friends.

The council had sent out information packs to all Otago secondary schools, and several other groups, and it encouraged schools to get behind this event, he said.

Applicants were required to explain their interest in environmental issues in up to 300 words and send their applications to the regional council by March 3.
