The three-day fair starts at 10am and is being run by The Antique Fair Charitable Trust, with proceeds from the entry charge - $6 for adults (children get in free) - going to the Otago Community Hospice.
One of the national trust's four trustees, Tauranga antiques dealer Sandy Woodward, said the Dunedin fair had begun quietly three years ago, initially making a loss, but had ''really taken off '' last year, with four antique dealers providing items for sale, twice the initial participation.
Momentum was continuing to build, with six dealers, including two from the South Island, involved this year and more than 5000 items on sale, up about a third on last year.
The trust hoped to make a ''great donation'' of $2000 or more to the Otago hospice.
